|Press Statement from GE SENSING (Druck) re FIRE 09/06/2014 18 June, 2014|
As you well know, on Monday, 9 June, at the GE Druck facility on Fir Tree Lane in Groby, a fire occurred in one of the nine manufacturing units of the plant. Investigations, including an internal investigation, are underway into the cause of the fire. As the fire service reported, the smoke seen at the site was no more harmful than a house fire, and was caused by the fire burning through the offices on site. Following approval from the Leicester fire service, employees returned to work the following day (Tuesday, 10 June) and production continued. Employees whose offices had been damaged have been relocated to other areas of the facility.
While words cannot express our full level of gratitude, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Leicestershire fire emergency services, area business owners and community members of Groby for their patience and support this past week as we dealt with the incident. While no one was injured in the fire we know it caused a disruption to the community, business owners.
We are especially grateful for the brave and tireless work of the Leicestershire fire service team for dealing with the situation with true professionalism and without causing panic.
A big thank you to the Groby community for opening your hearts and homes to those involved in the incident on Monday. Residents of the area were quick to offer a place to sit, drinks and use of their facilities to those employees who were evacuated. Some local shops opened earlier to accommodate our displaced workers and even offered free drinks to some. I’m sure there were other very quiet moments of generosity shared that I am not mentioning here, but you know who you are, and we are so very thankful for your understanding and generosity.
Please share any questions or comments with us using the following e-mail address email@example.com and we will get back to you.
Thank you for your ongoing support and patience, and for all you have done.
With our deepest gratitude,
Ryan Crocker, site leader, GE Druck facility
