Dear Ms. Haslam,

A50 Bradgate Hill Consultation

I wish to register/record my comments in respect of the above consultation.

I fully support the introduction of measures that may help to address the genuine daily fears for their safety and concerns over the negative impact on their quality of life expressed by many local residents as a consequence of the high and ever increasing volume of traffic on the A50, the vast majority of which constantly exceeds the current 50 mph speed limit on that road in the Bradgate Hill area of Groby.

The increasing noise and air pollution levels to which families including young children are being subjected to on a daily basis which in any case may infringe their rights under Protocol 1, Article 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights, i.e. this article combined with the Right to Privacy in Article 8 can be cited to claim the right of environmental protection for those living close to sources of pollution, e,g. noise and air pollution from the A50.

Reducing the speed limit from 50mph to 40mph should help to reduce such pollution to some degree but only if some effective form of enforcement of a new speed limit were introduced because the current 50mph limit is not observed by the vast majority of the traffic which illustrates that the current method of speed enforcement on this stretch of road is certainly not effective.

Neighbours who we have talked to, have been supportive of a proposed reduction in the speed limit and the closing of gaps in the central reservation but all have voiced concerns that there is not likely to be any improvement unless effective proven enforcement measures such as average speed cameras are introduced.

The A50 is a major arterial route from the M1 into Leicester and is often used as a diversion route when there are road works on the motorway or an accident occurs, increasing traffic volumes and the resultant noise and air pollution even further.

Subject to my/our comments above, I/we wish to register/record our preference for option A / B in the consultation process.

Yours sincerely,
