Energy Bill Rebate    2 March, 2022

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council

Hinckley Hub, Rugby Road, Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 0FR

PRESS RELEASE

ISSUED 1 March 2022

Get your £150 energy bill rebate quicker by paying your council tax by direct debit

Hinckley and Bosworth residents are being urged to pay their council tax by direct debit to help speed up the payment of a £150 rebate to homes in bands A to D for help towards energy bills.

This comes after the government announced the council tax rebate scheme as part of a wider package being put into place to support families amid rising global energy costs.

This will be a one-off payment, made on behalf of central government, by local authorities, direct to eligible households.

Households who pay council tax by direct debit, which is a safe, simple and quick way to pay will see the cash go directly into their bank accounts.  Those who do not pay by direct debit will be contacted by the council and invited to make a claim.

There will also be a discretionary rebate scheme for vulnerable residents or those who do not pay council tax who live in properties in Council Tax bands E to H.

Council Leader Cllr Stuart Bray said: “We know people are struggling with the cost of living right now and we want to make sure that residents receive this vital help with their bills. In most case those who pay by direct debit and are the liable person for council tax will receive this money straight into their bank account so I would urge residents to sign up as soon as they can.

“Our priority is to make sure every household entitled to this payment gets it as soon as possible – so if you don’t yet pay by direct debit, I would urge you to sign up now.”

Currently Hinckley and Bosworth has around 42,265 properties in council tax bands A to D.
